| Hans Appelqvist
After the Xiao Fang EP, the first album of Hans Appelqvist was the acclaimed and charming Tonefilm containing music for fictitious films. Interweaving acoustic instruments - such as the recurrent resonance of a melancholic guitar or a slightly agitated piano - with electronic beats and sound samples from movies, Appelqvist created his own distinctive sonic landscape where the ambience swiftly shifts from evocative and mellow to a state of subtle agitation.
After releasing a 3" CD on Häpna, in 2004 Komplott released his second full length Bremort. Bremort is the name of a fictitious city where the listener takes part in scenes in the lives of the people of this average Swedish town. The musical imprint is made out of lucid harmonics and a largely straightforward structure created out of classical musical elements and accompanied by a simple, clear-cut theme. At the same time the arrangements form a tremendous patchwork quilt of various musical styles. The combination of arranged field-recordings and disharmonious voices together with the underlying theme of the album makes any effort of labelling the music futile.
