The deconstruction of organized sound put forth by multi-instrumentalist composer and improviser Weasel Walter is fiercely aimed at destroying the complacency of music and musicians. This is nowhere more evident than in his rotating cast of characters known as the Flying Luttenbachers. Though he renounces all classifications of genre, the Luttenbachers are a manifestation of the attitudes inherent in free jazz, death metal and punk rock: a sonic maelstrom of hate and disdain tempered with skills in spades.

The current line-up features guitar virtuoso Ed Rodriguez (also Gorge Trio, ex-Colossamite, ex-Iceburn), bassist Mike Green (also Burmese) and Walter back on the drum throne.

The debut offering by this triumvirate, The Void (2004), is both an eight movement suite and a musical riddle. Hearkening back (vaguely) to the concrete, bludgeoning power-trio structures of the classic 1996 Revenge album, the new group sprints urgently down the razor sharp edge between control and chaos with new-found subtlety and expert precision. The Void was recorded live in the studio on one day and mixed on another in order to retain the stark purity of the performances. Put plainly, this is the most rocking Luttenbachers album in years.
