Thighpaulsandra sprang into being during recording sessions with Julian Cope in 1994 having previously contributed to the recording of 'Transporting' and other Cope tracks in 1987. With their mutual interest in krautrock and Thighpaulsandra's extensive background in improvised and electronic music, they continued working together on the album Autogeddon (1994) and then formed the glambient group Queen Elizabeth the same year - releasing an album of the same name.

Two further Cope albums followed, 20 Mothers in 1995 and Interpreter in 1996, both with extensive Thighpaulsandra influence. Another Queen Elizabeth album Elizabeth Vagina was released in 1997. Thighpaulsandra and Cope also produced the legendary Anal album Zero Beats Per Minute which was released in 1995.

While working on several other Cope side projects and live shows Thighpaulsandra was asked to replace Kate Radley in Spiritualized for a U.S. tour in 1997. Here he was reunited with another Cope alumnus in guitarist Mike Mooney.

In 1998 Thighpaulsandra became a member of Coil recording the Astral Disaster album and following this with Musick To Play In The Dark Vols. 1 & 2. 2000 also saw the re-emergence of Coil as a live act playing shows in London and Barcelona.

After surviving the Spiritualized personnel shake-up in 1999 (his former cohorts going on to become Lupine Howl), Thighpaulsandra recorded Let it Come Down with Jason Pierce and the new Spiritualized line up. The album was released in September of 2001 and Spiritualized went on the road.

Thighpaulsandra released the Some Head EPon Coil's Eskaton label in April 2000, the double LP I, Thighpaulsandra in January 2001 and the Michel Publicity Window EP in August of 2001. Double Vulgar followed in 2003 (on Retractor), and Rape Scene last year on Ochre Records.
